OBNN's proclamation on racism

We are passionate about our place in the world as Black nurses, students, and leaders. We have come far, but we must acknowledge that there is still a great deal of work to be done and a challenging journey ahead because anti-Black racism still exists across North America, including Canada. OBNN is committed to acknowledging and fighting racism, bias and discrimination, by speaking out against anti-Black violence, by supporting anti-racism efforts in our communities and by magnifying the voices of our Black nurse leaders in the fight for justice, equity and an end to systemic racism.

testimonials

" As I am a new member to the Ontario Black Nurses Network (OBNN), I feel hopeful and excited for new opportunities within this initiative. Being a young Black- female nursing student I feel powerful and motivated that I have such amazing support from wise executive members within OBNN.  When I attended the most recent social night event, I felt an instant connection with all members and a safe space when talking about the future of young black nurses. Black women in leadership is something that resonates with me and I continue to see great opportunities at hand and young black nurses on the brink of success "

“The Student Social Event was a great experience, that I am very fortunate to have attended. I was given the opportunity to meet some of my fellow nursing students, as well as ask questions and communicate with experienced nurses. Overall, the event was very engaging, informative and so fun! I can’t wait to attend future events."

"I want to start by saying thank you for allowing me to participate in this amazing opportunity for students. There was a great mixture of fun and informative activities, as well as, excellent speakers, good quality questions and discussions. I believe the staff at OBNN paid great attention to detail behind the scenes, and really went above and beyond to create not only an event, but a safe space that speaks to our needs as upcoming, Black-identified nurses. Friendly and knowledgeable people, great vibes and good music – what more can I ask for. The event was inspiring, and I’m excited to see what they have to offer in the future!"

Kind regard,

Fatimah
